About Fractional CTO Services

What does a fractional CTO do?

A fractional CTO provides senior technical leadership on a part-time or flexible basis. That includes architecture decisions, team building, hiring, code reviews, technical strategy, and mentoring — everything a full-time CTO does, but scaled to the hours your company actually needs. I embed with your team rather than advising from the outside. Learn more about fractional CTO services.

When should a startup hire a fractional CTO?

When you need senior technical leadership but can't justify a full-time CTO at EUR 250-400K/year. Common triggers: you're a non-technical founder building a tech product, your architecture isn't scaling, your team is growing faster than your processes, or you need someone to own the technical strategy while you focus on the business.

What's the difference between a fractional CTO and a consultant?

Consultants typically advise from the outside — they assess, write a report, and leave. A fractional CTO embeds with your team. I join standups, review pull requests, make architecture decisions in real time, and mentor your engineers. I'm accountable for outcomes, not just recommendations.

Fractional CTO vs. full-time CTO — what's the difference?

A full-time CTO works 40+ hours/week exclusively for your company, typically at EUR 250-400K/year plus equity. A fractional CTO provides the same strategic leadership and hands-on skill on a flexible basis — usually 1-3 days/week — at a fraction of the cost. You get the experience without the overhead, and can scale up or down as needs change. See a detailed comparison.

How much does a fractional CTO cost?

Engagements typically start from EUR 3,000/month for advisory-level involvement, scaling up based on hours and scope. Most clients invest EUR 3,000-10,000/month depending on whether they need a few hours of strategic guidance or multiple days of hands-on leadership per week. Compared to a full-time CTO hire (EUR 250-400K/year), it's a significant saving.

Can a fractional CTO help with hiring engineers?

Absolutely. Hiring is one of the most common things I help with. I define the roles you need, write job descriptions, screen candidates technically, conduct interviews, and help with onboarding. I also plan for the eventual full-time CTO hire — defining what that person should look like and building the team they'll inherit.

What types of projects do you take on?

I focus on challenging technical problems — backend systems, distributed architectures, data pipelines, team transformations, and scaling challenges. My sweet spot is Python/FastAPI backends, cloud infrastructure, and situations where others have said "it can't be done." Check out past projects for examples.

Do you work with startups or enterprises?

Both. I've helped early-stage startups ship their first product and enterprises transform struggling 18-person teams. What matters is the challenge and the people, not the company size. See all services I offer.

Do you have a team or work solo?

I primarily work solo but have a network of trusted professionals for projects that need broader skill sets. If you need React frontend work, mobile development, or other specialties, I can bring in the right people while maintaining quality and coherence.

What industries do you work with?

I've worked across automotive, fintech, enterprise data, energy, and developer tools. My background spans electronics, embedded systems, and cloud software — so I'm comfortable in any domain where technology is core to the product. What matters more than industry is the nature of the challenge.

What's your typical engagement model?

Flexible. I offer monthly retainers (a fixed monthly fee for ongoing availability and support), project-based pricing for defined deliverables, and hourly consulting for focused needs. Most fractional CTO clients start with a monthly retainer of 1-3 days per week. We'll find what works for your situation. More about engagement models.

How long does a fractional CTO engagement last?

Anywhere from 3 months to over a year. Some clients need help through a specific milestone — a product launch, funding round, or scaling phase. Others keep me on as ongoing technical leadership. My contracts are month-to-month with no lock-in, so you're never stuck.

Where are you based? Do you work remotely?

I'm based in Andorra (Europe) and work remotely with teams worldwide. I'm comfortable across European and US time zones. For key moments — kickoffs, offsites, critical sprints — I'm open to travel.

How do we get started?

Simple: book a free 30-minute call or send me an email. We'll talk about your situation, I'll ask questions, and within a week I'll send a clear proposal — what I'd do, how many hours, and what it costs. No 50-page documents. Plain language.
